Trevor Sargeant
1989
A classic view of one of the many waterways of Venice from a small bridge. The romantic, winding canal forms the centre of the picture, and a traditional wooden barge is moored in the many coloured water. As the buildings of each side of the canal regress, Sargeant becomes more daring with his perspective and more suggestive with his brushwork, culminating in the flourish of rooftops at the vanishing point – a post-
